New Job Creation ‘Vision’ Must Develop Individual Talents
Do you ever think that some people are just born funny? I don’t mean looking funny but actually with a funny bone? I do. And meeting Spencer Higgins has proved my theory once again. It is my prediction that this 17 year old young man is going to put his little hometown of Melbourne on the map one day as he certainly will join the likes of great Canadian comedians such as his hero, Mike Myers.
Tall and lanky, Spencer was a natural pick to be Cat in the Hat in Seussical Jr, performing September 24 to October 1st at London City Music Theatre. Even though he has never had a major lead role before, this young man seems destined for the big stage. He has an incredible natural talent for voices – like a teenage version of Jim Carey! He is bringing a very funny freshness to this role which is sure to entertain people of all ages….not just the kids.
A long time fan of Bugs Bunny, Spencer is just one of those self described “goofy” kids who has finally found a stage for his talents. The kids at Strathroy District Collegiate Insitute know him as the producer of very funny videos on Saints TV – but now hundreds of people are going to know him as a talented and funny actor when he hits the stage of Seussical Jr.
He’s pretty pumped about it all. “Considering that Mike Myers did the movie and Jim Carey did it too – well, I love the chance to be in Seussical Jr. They were looking for someone who could do voices and improv really called to me. I love that I can do so many different roles in two hours – it lets me goof around and really show my variety.”
Spencer also has the funny body moves that bring his voices to life. He’s going to be dressed mostly in black with a black hat for this production – so it is the way he moves which brings the Cat in the Hat to life so well. I love the way he describes himself in the role!
“I’m not going to be coughing up a hairball or using the litter box but the personality of the cat really adds to the character. It’s kind of dancing in a way that will make people laugh!”
Don’t you love the confidence of youth? I do. And this young guy is going to make us all say, we knew him when he was Cat in the Hat!
Seussical Jr. runs September 24 to October 1st at London City Music Theatre, 900 King Street, London (at Western Fair).
